Manage YouTube notifications

YouTube notifications let you know when there are new videos and updates from your favorite channels and other content. We'll send you notifications for channels you're subscribed to and may also send notifications based on your interests. To change your notifications or turn them off completely, use the instructions below.

Note: Notification settings may differ slightly by device.

Difference between Notifications and Subscriptions Feed

Subscriptions feed, available on both mobile and a computer, will show all recently uploaded videos from your subscriptions.

Notifications tell you when there are new videos and updates from your subscriptions. We'll send emails, notifications on mobile, or inbox notifications on your computer. When you subscribe to a channel, you'll automatically get personalized notifications with highlights of activity.

To get all notifications from a subscribed channel, tap the Notification bell . The bell will then change to a ringing bell to indicate that you've selected all notifications.

You won't get notifications if a channel's audience is set as made for kids. The notification bell will also be set to no notifications . You won't be able to change this setting.

If you subscribe to a video or channel with an audience that's set as made for kids, your bell setting will automatically be set to no notifications, and will be grayed out.

How to make sure you're getting YouTube notifications on your phone or tablet

Before you start:

  • Make sure to check your YouTube app and Android notification settings.
  • Make sure you're signed in to the right account.

To adjust YouTube app settings:

  1. At the top of your screen, tap your profile picture.
  2. TapSettings.
  3. Tap Notifications.

To adjust your Android notification settings:

  1. Open your Android Settings app.
  2. Tap the relevant notification settings option.
  3. Find "YouTube".

Notifications for Recommended Content

You may occasionally get Recommended video notifications for videos you might like, even if you're not subscribed to the channel. To turn these notifications on or off, follow the instructions below.

  1. Tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. TapNotifications.
  4. TurnRecommended videos on or off.
