How To Tell Age Of Minolta X 700 Cameras

  1. How-do-you-do, I am about to buy my 3rd used Ten-700 on ebay. I wonder if
people on this forum have any experience with the reliability of 10-
    700 depending on its age.

I know that it is not only the age of the camera but too the
handling it had, the way of storing etc that makes the difference.
But the latter two I cannot check, while the serial number I can.

And so, the question is: is it correct that the higher the series number
(the highest # i came across so far was 325xxxx) the younger
and 'ameliorate' the camera ? Weren't the last several years made i
China - how about quality there ?

Is at that place a range of serial numbers that I should aim for ? Say, (I am
making it up) no less than 1 100 000 bc/ they were fabricated in the
eighties, and no more than three 000 000 b/c the production was no longer
in Nippon ? Or should i not bother and but inquire if information technology is in proficient shape
and pray it is true what the seller responds ? :)

If anyone has whatsoever suggestions, I'll apreciate it.

  2. For years at that place accept been rumors, totally unsubstantiated, that Minolta cameras made in China (or someplace out of favor with the rumor-monger) were poorly made, junior, etc. Minolta has excellent quality control only if you are so worried almost their quality control, you lot should probably purchase something else. Since you are ownership your tertiary used X700 on E-bxx, I wonder why. Are they all junk or do yous like the camera that much? If you are actually worried virtually getting a canis familiaris, why not buy a new camera?
  3. How-do-you-do Geoff, no i am not that worried about the quality of China based cameras, I am just curious, that's all. About why buy the 3rd camera, that's simple: I bought my first X700 in the 90ties, it worked fine for ten years and then it went expressionless (some shutter problem that cannot be fixed). So i got the second body last year every bit a replacement. And now, that i have besides picked up several rokkor lenses along the fashion, I want to take a second operation X-700, as a backup trunk and slide flick camera. And i do like this photographic camera - information technology sure is nice provided you lot like to recall and play around with your photographic camera while taking pictures.

And last, I WOULD purchase a new one, but they cannot exist get in Europe (i am Shine). Information technology is only on US ebay where i come across them from time to time described as NEW / OUT OF THE BOX version. Cheers,

  4. The reliability of later X-series Minoltas tend to be affected by one or ii simple electronic component failures. Ii capacitors, one under the lesser cover, another nether the elevation cover, tend to have limited lifespans: don't know if this is because of basic design (like heat failure or simple age/cycle stress failure) or component quality changes over a 20+year production run. So because of this mean-lifepan-between-failure reality, 10-700's seem to be declining more often more recently: don't believe that later (higher s/n's) series will be saved same fate. It is reality that components, electronic or mechanical, eventually neglect.

See www.twid.de/x700/#disx700 as ane of a few sites on how to fix this component failure problem for an X-700.

As well Minolta, up to the merger aftermath, had strict control over their outsourced production: they've made a point of emphasizing quality contol for their Cathay product facility in Shilong.

  5. Pawel.
I have a Minolta X700 Photographic camera, About Mint Status, Bought in Sweden Year 86, with Original50MM lens.
I was looking for serial number, Couldnt find it, If yous tin can tell me where is information technology located will appreciate. There is no sticker for that , I was assuming there must have been i.
    Thanks,
    Amit
  6. serial number is the seven digit number on the wink mount, on top of the camera
